Summer Hair Care

Three cheers for summer!! So many wonderful things come with summer- longer days, fresh vegetables, green in the landscapes again. It's a great time of year but it can be ROUGH on your hair!

Prolonged sun exposure can fade your color, dry your hair out and actually damage the cuticle of your hair causing split and brittle ends. Wearing a hat, scarf, bandana etc. covering your hair from the sun can help protect your mane. I also recommend using Onesta's leave in conditioner and Hydro Moisture mask. Both are very light weight so your hair won't get weighted down and oily, but it will benefit from the added moisture which will help add shine and tame some of that fun summer time frizz.

Another enemy of the hair in summer- POOL WATER. Chlorine is of course hard on your hair but so is copper that is added chemicals used to keep algae out of the pool. Both cause dry, stringy, tangly and discolored hair. How to avoid the without wearing a swim cap every time you jump in the pool? Well there are a couple of things you can do.

  1. Always wet your hair before getting into the pool.

  2. If possible, apply a small amount of conditioner to your hair after wetting it and DON'T rinse it out. Think of your hair sort of like a sponge, if it's wet with water and has some conditioner in it- it will soak up less of of the pool water.

  3. Rinse/shampoo your hair as soon as you can after getting out of the water.

  4. Use a shampoo/conditioner/treatment specifically target to remove chlorine, copper and other pool elements from your hair. Cue my newest product at the salon Malibu C Swimmers Wellness Collection. This will gently cleanse and nourish your hair making your life after the pool much more manageable!

Now go jump in that pool and have a splashing good time this summer- just remember to baby your hair a little bit. And let me know if there is anything I can do to help make your hair more manageable!
